Nanhi-Yaara Foundation centre to train and empower women: Harsimrat Badal - YaYa & Co.

Nanhi-Yaara Foundation centre to train and empower women: Harsimrat Badal

Badal (Muktsar), March 09, 2018: The Nanhi Chaan Foundation today tied up with an international philanthropist to establish the Nanhi – Yaara Foundation in this village to train and financially empower women to stand up on their own feet.

The centre, which was inaugurated by Union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today, aims to train women in sewing, embroidery, tailoring and allied crafts besides creating a platform for them to set up their own business or work for the centre on a full time basis.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Badal thanked Yaara Foundation head Ms Candy Mashmoor for coming up with this concept and deciding to partner with Nanhi Chaan to establish the centre at Badal village. The union minister said since Ms Mashmoor had experience in marketing handicrafts due to a similar centre she had established in China, this offered a unique opportunity for economic empowerment of women of the area.

Giving details about the project, Ms Mashmoor said the centre would be run on a no profit no loss basis. She said the centre would offer training to women in handicraft making as well as take advantage of their natural skills to make items like durries and even juttis. “These items will be sold in the international market and the resultant profit will be distributed among the women”, she added.

Another unique point of the centre is that it offers to recruit women as full time paid workers once they complete their training ensuring they become gainfully employed. Ms Simran Singh, who is also part of the Nanhi – Chaan foundation collaborative effort, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted that the centre would also open a day care centre to look after small children accompanying their mothers as well as teach them at the same time.
